International Business Development Executive - Lab Products

Edinburgh Instruments are looking to recruit an Internal Business Development Executive to join our Livingston Headquarters.
What You’ll Be Doing?
Reporting into the Sales Manager – Lab Products, the Business Development Executive will be responsible for sales activities across the Techcomp Group Lab Products portfolio. This role will work closely with the UK Sales Manager to support the Group’s business development.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Precisa – Support of UK sales of Precisa weighing equipment and service contracts.
- Froilabo – direct sales into the UK market.
- Edinburgh Sensors – direct and distributor sales Worldwide.
- Support of other Techcomp business units with sales and opportunities into the UK Market.
- Supporting local Sales and Service operatives to maximise opportunities for Techcomp Group Products into the UK Market.
- Assist and help co-ordinate activities and information with UK peers across industry sectors and key customers and share ideas and market intelligence.
- Form part of a Techcomp and Lab Products Commercial team and contribute to regular meetings, communications and working practices to support one another.
- Occasional travel to support and meet customers end-users and distributors in the UK.
- Qualify leads and follow them through to closure.
- Support dealers and internal customers on tender submissions and technical specification requirements.
- Attend trade shows, exhibitions, conferences to promote Techcomp Group products.
- Exchange information with co-workers on UK market, competitor activities and collaborate on cross-selling opportunities.
- Ability to generate new leads through networking and prospecting activities.
- Manage accounts and prepare quotations using Salesforce.
- Forecast sales on a monthly basis, meet agreed targets and professionally manage your pipeline.
- Collate sales figures and summarise activities into a monthly report to be submitted to the UK Sales Manager.
- Additional ad hoc duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Educated to Higher or A level in a Science based discipline.
- Proficient across all Microsoft Office Software
- BSc or equivalent ideally in a science-based discipline, is beneficial.
- Experience in the use of a CRM Software, is preferred.
- Familiarity with inside sales processes and prior customer service experience would be advantageous.

What You’ll Be Doing?
The Applications Scientist will play an integral role in our team to provide sales support material and scientific content for the Lab Products Group. Responsibilities will include preparing application notes, supporting production of material for product presentations on our instruments and applications, analysing and developing methods for customer samples and other sales and marketing related content. In addition, the role may involve giving presentations at user seminars, workshops and conferences throughout the world as well as attending relevant exhibitions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Work with the Product Management and Marketing teams to:
- Develop suitable applications related materials,
- Working closely with the sales, development, and other technical teams;
- Identify suitable exhibitions and conferences for promoting the company’s products and occasionally attend these events on behalf of the company;
- Analyse market and user trends and report back to help improve the product;
- Create support processes and infrastructure, developing documentation and training materials;
- Carry out customer sample measurements for internal and external stakeholders;
- Preparing technical presentations on instruments and applications;
- Assist Operations and Service personnel in resolving customer support issues;
- Giving presentations at user seminars, workshops and conferences throughout the world as well as attending relevant events;
- Able to generate new leads through networking;
- Hosting and training customers off-site and on-site when required;
- Testing new products for Development and feedback on product improvements;
- Responsible for ensuring laboratory instruments and demo equipment are well maintained and in good working order;
- Responsible for the correct and safe use of all equipment used;
- Any other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- BSc in life science discipline (Biology / Microbiology / Chemistry).
- Considerable experience in scientific writing.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Oral and written communication in French and German, would be beneficial but not essential.
- A Willingness to travel worldwide.

Electrical Engineer

With sites in France and Romania and a shared R&D hub at Edinburgh Instruments in Scotland, Froilabo are looking to create a strong engineering team to build the next generation of environmentally-friendly freezers.
To this end, Froilabo are looking to recruit an Electrical Engineer to join our Livingston R&D centre.
What You’ll Be Doing?
The Electrical Engineer designs, tests, and develops electrical systems for refrigeration products, encompassing component selection, distribution of AC/DC power, signal and control wiring, creation of system cable harnesses and wiring diagrams, ensuring product electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility, and supporting overall product reliability.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Primary engineer for electrical system design: Select components, design system electrical layout and wiring, share in developing unit control systems, ensure the safety and reliability of the electrical subsystem supports the overall system’s safety and reliability.
- Ensure electrical design fulfills relevant regulatory requirements and standards and exceeds them where appropriate.
- Document system wiring and cable harnesses for transfer to production. Ensure product manufacturing and service needs are considered and incorporated during design. Develop test methods for production where appropriate in conjunction with the Production Engineers.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Relevant experience in electrical engineering design and development, with demonstrated competence in system wiring design and accompanying documentation. Any suitable combination of practical experience and education will be considered, with an emphasis on experience.
- Knowledge of control systems, including relay logic and fail-safe design principles. Demonstrated competence in designing systems to be safe, robust, and reliable, as well as putting in place appropriate testing to prove the same.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, including electrical safety and EMC, and their implications for design and test; able to identify and apply relevant requirements for markets outside the UK and European Union.
We’d Also Love to See
- Industrial equipment design experience preferred; otherwise, experience with design of systems containing mains-powered rotating equipment, heating elements, etc., preference for products in series production rather than bespoke installations.
- PLC programming experience a plus. Opportunity for growth in this area based on Engineer’s career development interests.
- ATEX or Medical Device design experience a plus.

To this end, Froilabo are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Livingston R&D centre.
What You’ll Be Doing?
The Mechanical Design Engineer works with a small team of engineers in developing refrigerated and heated equipment for laboratory environments. The role will require the ability to fit in well as part of a team, whilst also being capable of working independently.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Design mechanical components and subsystems for refrigeration and heating products. Prototype, test, and tweak designs for reliability. Proactively identify and navigate engineering trade-offs affecting robustness, performance, DFM/DFA, cost, etc. Test and characterize prototypes, identify areas for improvement and appropriate corrective actions, and iterate design.
- Create 3D CAD models, create and tolerance detailed 2D engineering drawings to ensure successful series fabrication.
- Aide in transfer of product to series production. Draft work instructions for mechanical component assembly. Advise on creation of jigs, tooling, fixtures to aid in series assembly as appropriate.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (candidate without formal qualifications who can demonstrate relevant experience will also be considered).
- Relevant experience in product development, including experience with design of sheet metal, weldments, machined, moulded, and cast parts. Excellent practical engineering skills, including modification and assembly of prototype components.
- Comfortable creating parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
We’d Also Love to See
- Experience with design for series production preferred, industrial or laboratory equipment a plus.
- Heat transfer background a plus, as is experience with design of temperature sensing and control systems.
- Reasonable level of spoken and written French a plus.

To this end, Froilabo are looking to recruit a Refrigeration Design Engineer to join our Livingston R&D centre.
What You’ll Be Doing?
The Refrigeration Design Engineer works with a small team of engineers in developing refrigerated equipment for laboratory environments, including low- and ultra-low-temperature freezers, blast freezers, and refrigerated incubators. The role will require the ability to fit in well as part of a team, whilst also being capable of working independently. As Froilabo’s resident design authority for refrigeration, the role will require international travel to Froilabo’s production site in Romania as well as occasional travel to France.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Design and develop refrigeration circuits, including component selection (compressors, heat exchangers, regulators, etc.), test, and optimization. Create and enact test plans to determine circuit reliability and make appropriate design tweaks based on the data.
- Drive ongoing transition of products to green refrigerants, ensure product compliance to relevant European and foreign regulatory requirements. Monitor changes to the requirements and ensure products and production processes continue to comply.
- Assist the Production Engineers in transitioning refrigeration circuits into production; advise on tools and processes to increase quality and throughput. Consult on refrigeration issues seen in production, working with the Production team to troubleshoot and resolve them.
- Manage a small team of Refrigeration Technicians (1-2) to carry out circuit prototyping, modifications, and test.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of refrigeration circuit design and relevant fluid mechanics (industrial cooling, air conditioning, or similar field), especially knowledge of cascade refrigeration circuits and design for series production.
- Knowledge of the regulations regarding refrigeration systems and pressure equipment (e.g., Pressure Equipment Directive, EN 378-2).
- Knowledge of the different families of refrigerants and the relevant F-GAS and ATEX regulations.
